Hypnotherapy FAQ's

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a technique. The word Hypnos comes from the Greek word for sleep and has been used for thousands of years by many cultures. It has been debated that Hypnosis is the same state as sleep; this however is not accurate as professionally administered hypnotherapy by hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state enabling your hypnotherapist to guide you to focus your mind directly on any tasks or problems which you might need help with.
A term often used to describe the sensation or experience of Hypnosis is ‘daydreaming’, something which we all do from time to time.

I’ve seen people on the television being hypnotised to behave like a
chicken etc. Could this happen to me?

Most definitely not! The portrayal of Hypnosis by entertainers and the media world is a totally falsely projected idiom and is not in anyway associated with the professional service that is administered at our clinics.

Will I stay in control during hypnosis?
Yes, you will be in complete control throughout your consultation. You will simply experience the deep state of relaxation during which you can choose to ‘exit’ the session at any time.

What will hypnosis feel like?
You will be fully conscious at all times during your consultation so, you will be fully aware of the environment and your surroundings. However you are likely to experience a deep sense of relaxation and a feeling of peace, security and serenity.

Am I in safe hands?
Brian is a fully trained and qualified professional who is fully bound by the code of conduct of the General Hypnotherapy Register and General Hypnotherapy Standards Council. He is also a Justice of the Peace of many years standing and has an enhanced CRB check.

Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes! Anyone who enters in to the consultation actively wanting to experience the benefits of hypnosis can be successfully treated. It would be wrong and inappropriate to force your friends or family to undertake a consultation if they did not wish to do so and this would be apparent in the pre consultation discussion with Brian.

Could I be harmed by hypnosis?
No! Your session will be conducted to the professional standards of the GHR and GH Standards Council. Most people feel relaxed and refreshed post – session and fully able to continue with their day in the normal way, including driving and working.
